Warm and windy! This morning mountain temperatures ranged from 30 to 40 degrees F with the base area at Bridger Bowl at 48 degrees F. Winds were averaging 20-40 mph and gusting 50-60 mph from the SW. Yesterday at Big Sky winds reached 85 mph in one location. Today will be a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures approaching 50 degrees F near Bozeman and 40 degrees F in most other places. Strong SW winds will continue today. By tomorrow morning the southern half of the advisory area should get 2-3 inches of snow with more falling during the day on Saturday.
Last night most places received a trace to 2 inches of snow while the mountains near Cooke City received 3-4 inches. Temperatures did not cool overnight and were near freezing in the Bridger Range and mid 20’s F all other places. The big story is winds which were dead calm yesterday morning, but increased significantly this morning averaging 10-20 mph from the SW and gusting 30-50 mph. Snowfall will return late Friday night though we may see a few snowflakes fall between now and then. Strong southerly winds will continue and push temperatures near 30 degrees F or higher today.
Snowfall yesterday and last night favored the Yellowstone Club with a foot of powder. The northern Madison, Gallatin and Bridger Ranges show 6-8 inches, while only 2-4 inches fell in the south. Winds decreased yesterday afternoon and are currently 5-10 mph out of the west to north. Mountain temperatures are in the mid-teens under mostly cloudy skies. Today will see some sun but cloud up again tonight with a trace to an inch falling by morning.
Cooke City received another six inches of snow, most of it falling last night, while the other mountain ranges just received wind. Under mostly cloudy skies mountain temperatures are in the low to mid 20s with west to southwest winds gusting 35-50 mph and averaging 20-30 mph at the ridgetops. Today will be windy and cloudy with snow falling later this afternoon. By morning the northern mountains could have 3-4 inches, the mountains towards West Yellowstone 4-6 inches, and Cooke City 6-10 inches. Winter is back!
Over the past 24 hours the mountains picked up 4-6 inches of low density snow with the exception of the Big Sky area which picked up 2-3 inches. At 4 am, mountain temperatures range from the mid-teens to low 20s F and winds are blowing 15-25 mph out of the W-NW with stronger gusts being recorded along the ridgelines. Today, temperatures will warm into the upper 20s F under mostly cloudy skies and winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-NW. There is a continuing chance of mountain snow showers, mainly in the southern mountains where an additional 1-2 inches could accumulate by this afternoon. Another potent storm system is forecasted to arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Overnight 1-2 inches of snow fell in the mountains around Cooke City. The rest of the advisory area remained dry. This morning, temperatures range from the single digits to low teens F and winds are blowing 10-25 mph out of the W-NW. Today, temperatures will warm into the mid to upper 20s F under partly cloudy skies and winds will continue to blow 10-25 mph out of the W-NW. A more potent storm system will begin to impact the area this evening. Mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky could see 1-3 inches by tomorrow morning while the southern Mountains could pick up 3-6 inches.
This morning temperatures are in the mid to upper 20s F under mostly clear skies and winds are light out of the W-NW. Today, a Canadian cold front will push into the area allowing temperatures to drop throughout the day. Highs will reach the upper 20s to low 30s by late morning, but will drop back into the low 20s F by this afternoon. Winds will remain light to moderate out of the W-NW and skies will become mostly cloudy later in the day. There is a slight chance of mountain snow showers by this evening with 1-2 inches is possible in the mountains by tomorrow.
With a slight inversion in place this morning, mountain temperatures were in the low 20s F in most areas and high 20s F in the Bridger Range. Light winds were blowing 5-10 mph from the N and E. Today will be similar to yesterday with sunshine, light winds, and temperatures in the low 30s F. The weather pattern may start changing this weekend with a decent chance of snow Sunday night and more possibly early next week.
This morning mountain temperatures were in the high teens and low 20s F with light westerly winds blowing 5-10 mph. Today will have more sunshine, very light winds, and temperatures near 30 degrees F.
After being shunned we are back in winter’s embrace. Last night three inches fell around West Yellowstone and Cooke City with 1-2 inches everywhere else, except the Bridger Range which got missed. Winds are 10-20 mph out of the west to southwest with temperatures in the upper 20s. The mountains will get a few flurries this morning, then clearing skies and temperatures in the mid-30s. My fingers are crossed for a little more snow this weekend.
